Adding Phones

Adding phones to the customer location/tenant

Adding phones to the customer location or tenant involves the following steps:

  1. Access the Phonism platform and navigate to the customer location or tenant where you want to add the phones.

  2. Locate the option to add devices or phones within the customer location or tenant dashboard.

  3. Select the appropriate method for adding phones, which may include manually entering device details, importing a list of devices, or integrating with a device management system.

Note: Make sure they are added to the correct tenant by double checking the tenant you are managing at the top. For structuring your hierarchy, please see “Phonism Hierarchy" page. For setting up a tenant, see "Setting up a Tenant" page.

  • Enter the necessary information for each phone, including its MAC address, model, and any additional configuration settings.

  • Save or submit the changes to add the phones to the customer location or tenant.

  • Verify that the phones have been successfully added by checking the list of devices associated with the customer location or tenant.

  • In this dialog box, it is also possible to configure the SIP Server and URI for the call server the phone will be connected to.  (This can be configured later if it is unknown at this time)

Once the Mac address has been entered into Phonism, the row in the Phonism phone screen for that phone, will either show the state as “Ready” or “Unknown” in the phones tab.

This indicates that Phonism possesses all the essential information required to provision the device with its configuration, including the MAC address, brand, model, and software version.

This indicates that Phonism currently lacks the model information necessary to generate and serve the device configuration. Upon receiving a configuration request from the device, Phonism will automatically detect the model information and then attempt to determine the software version the phone is running.

This suggests that Phonism does not possess the software version information required to generate and serve the device configuration. When the device requests a configuration from Phonism, the platform will automatically detect the software version and then generate the appropriate configuration data for the phone, serving it accordingly.

For best practices, see “Getting Started with Phonism“ on the bottom of the page.

Upon communication with Phonism, we automatically identify the device's brand, model number, and software version, if not already entered. Essentially, you only need to input the MAC address and instruct the phone to utilize Phonism for provisioning and configuration.

Adding Phones in Bulk:

Phonism facilitates bulk device importation through CSV files. Additionally, you can add devices in bulk by importing configuration files.

Import CSV

Users have the option to upload a CSV file, exported from their preferred spreadsheet application, and import it into Phonism. The only mandatory piece of data required is the MAC addresses of the devices intended for import. However, additional data associated with each device can be pre-configured within the CSV file.

Required

mac_address

Optional

voip_username, voip_password, sip_uri, extension_label, sip_server..

Format for CSV file:

mac_address,voip_username,voip_password, sip_uri,extension_label, sip_server 001122444444, John, password123, John@Doe.com, John, Doe.com 001122555555, Jane, password456, Jane@Green.com, Jane, Green.com 001122666666, Tom, password789, Snow@Tree.com, Tom, Tree.com

2. Import Config - this is a great advanced tool for migrating phones into Phonism.

a. If you have existing configuration files, they can be imported into Phonism to import new devices.

b. Imported configuration files will be parsed and imported into Phonism for that device.

c. Refer to the Import Config dialog in Phonism for more information on how to use this tool.

Please note: Devices added to Phonism through either single add or bulk import are required to have “Model” and “Software Version” before attempting to edit the device configuration. This can be set manually or detected automatically. See “Getting Started with Phonism“ on the bottom of the page.
