Connect your phone
Update the provisioning URL to connect your phone to Phonism.
A SIP phone must be instructed as to where to get its configuration/provisioning information from. Each device has a setting in the config that the phone looks towards for its provisioning details.
This is done via the Provisioning URL that lives in each device's configuration. To connect your phone to Phonism, make sure to update this parameter with the URL provided to you in your Phonism account. To find this, log in to your account and go to the Help tab and view Provisioning Server Settings.
UPDATE THE PROVISIONING URL
There are four ways to update the provisioning URL on a device.
1 Manually change the address
Access the web GUI/interface on the device itself.
Tip: This can also typically be done by entering the IP Address of the device into a web browser on the same subnet. The userID/password of the device is set by the manufacturer (it is often admin/admin).
Locate the Provisioning Server.
Enter the appropriate server address for the device you are provisioning.
Note: To find this, log in to your account and go to the Help tab and view Provisioning Server Settings.
Save the settings.
Reboot the device, power cycle the device, or locate the Auto-Provision Now button.
2 Use redirect services directly through the manufacturer
Most manufacturers have a "Redirection Server" (RS) that can assist in pointing the devices to the provisioning server URL you need. When a device is a factory reset (or still has its default settings), the default provisioning URL points the device to the manufacturer's RS.
As a customer, you can create an account with the manufacturer to access their redirection services. This is a free service, and we strongly recommend you reach out to your representative and get an account with all the manufacturers of the devices you work with.
For each new device you purchase, log in to your RS account and add the MAC address of the new device(s) [if the device isn't new, you'll need to make sure it has its factory default setting for provisioning url].
Set the provisioning server location/URL for each MAC address by entering the appropriate server address for the device you are provisioning.
Note: To find this, log in to your account and go to the Help tab and view Provisioning Server Settings.
When the phone is rebooted, it will look to the manufacturer's RS and be instructed to go to Phonism for configuration.
3 Use redirect services via Phonism integration with manufacturers' RS
To simplify workflows for customers, Phonism integrates with the manufacturers' RS services. If you input your RS credentials into Phonism (see the Initial account setup guide), Phonism programmatically instructs the manufacturers' RS to point that device to the appropriate provisioning URL for your account.
Add the MAC address for that device in your Phonism account.
Factory Reset the device (or ensure that it still has its default settings).
When the phone is rebooted, it looks to the manufacturer's RS, and is instructed to go to Phonism for configuration.
4 Use DHCP Option 66
If you have access to and/or control the DHCP server of a customer/device, then you can set the Option 66 setting to force the phone(s) to look to Phonism for configuration. We recommend that you work with your network engineer or IT consultant to perform this option.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER POINTING THE DEVICE TO PHONISM
Once your MAC address is added to your account and you’ve updated the provisioning URL through one of the four methods listed above, you can expect the following when the phone reboots/powers up:
The device is redirected to Phonism to receive provisioning/configuration updates.
When the device connects to Phonism for the first time, Phonism confirms or appends additional information about the device such as; manufacturer/make, device model, and firmware version.
The new information about the device shows in the Phones tab of your Phonism account, along with a timestamp (in UTC) for "Last Provision."
Phonism also updates the Provisioning URL in the device's configuration file to ensure that it speaks directly with Phonism going forward.
Your device is now connected to Phonism, and you can manage the lifecycle of the device through our platform.
