Use Zero-Touch Provisioning to easily deploy devices to your customers.

Many manufacturers provide a redirect service for device deployment, eliminating the need to unbox and configure devices. This process is known as Zero-Touch Provisioning.

Zero-Touch Provisioning is embedded in the devices' factory firmware. During the initial boot-up (or factory reset), the device reaches out to this service for redirection. If the device is registered in their system, it's directed to the provisioning server of your choice.

Phonism directly integrates with these services to automate redirection of devices through Phonism.

Requirements:

  • User credentials to access the redirect service provider of choice.

  • A super admin account in Phonism at the root of your account

Assumptions and limitations:

Currently, we support the following devices:

  • Yealink RPS

  • HTek RPS

  • Fanvil FDPS

  • Polycom ZTP

  • Snom SRAPS

  • Cisco EDOS

Note: You can have one active redirect service per-brand of supported devices.

CONFIGURATION

  1. Select the Account tab.

  2. Select Redirect Services.

  3. Enter the required information for your service.

  4. Click Save.

Note: Polycom ZTP requires additional information. See the Polycom ZTP guide for more information.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Once a redirect service is set up, Phonism automatically registers eligible devices based on their MAC address. Providing Brand, Model, and Software information for the phone is not necessary.

When a new phone is added to Phonism

The MAC is registered using your account for redirection to Phonism.

Note: For customers using a custom domain, your CNAME is used in lieu of ours.

When a phone is removed from Phonism

The MAC is deregistered from your redirect service account.

When a Phone boots for the first time (or factory reset)

The device reaches out to the redirect service and is told to provision from Phonism.

Note: The device may reboot a few times initially, as changes to provisioning settings typically require a reboot on many devices.

EXAMPLE SCENARIO

To better understand how Phonism and our integration with redirect services can improve your workflow, consider the following scenario:

You have just won a new customer for 500 seats of brand-new Yealink phones. The purchase has been made and the devices are on the way to the customer. Your distributor gave you a list of MACs that are being sent to the customer.

While the devices are in-transit, you imported that list of MACs into Phonism. You set up an Auto-Apply Template with your company's common device settings that are known-good. You configured and assigned all the VoIP Credentials to the appropriate devices in Phonism and your Voice Server.

At this point, the bulk of your configurations are done. A few days later the devices are delivered on-site. The customer distributes the devices to the appropriate user.

Once the phone is booted up for the first time, it will reach out to Yealink RPS and be redirected to Phonism for provisioning. The device will provision from Phonism with all the configuration you set up ahead of time.

Because Phonism automatically registered these devices with Yealink RPS, no manual configuration of the provisioning server was required. No "swivel chair" between Phonism and your redirect service was required. And with our extensive templating and configuration tooling, transit time was turned into productive time, resulting in a much faster onboarding experience for the customer and your technicians.
